its spectacular 300 km-wide panoramic view of the Himalayas is
simply a must see for any nature lover. Welcome to the
Switzerland of India-
Kausani
Almora is a town in the shape of a horse shoe.
It is on a 5 km long mountain range. It has its own
historical, cultural and political
importance. Each and every inch of Almora is filled with
scenic beauty and the town has maintained its ancient
tradition which is different from other hill stations. This is
clearly evident in the construction of the houses and in the
roads made out of slate stone. Almora is also called a town of
temples. Situated in the centre of the town is the temple of
Goddess Nanda Devi. Unlike Shimla,
Ranikhet and Nainital which were
developed by the English, Almora is a hill station totally
developed by the Indians.Almora
has many fruit orchards like apples, peaches, apricots, plums,
etc.
Nainital is a glittering jewel in the
Himalyan necklace, blessed
with scenic natural spledour
and varied natural resources. Dotted with
lakes, Nainital has earned the epithet of 'Lake
District' of India. The most prominent of the lakes is
Naini lake ringed by
hills. Nainital has a varied
topography. Some of the important
places in the district are Nainital, Haldwani,
Kaladhungi,
Ramnagar, Bhowali,
Ramgarh,
Mukteshwar, Bhimtal,
Sattal and
Naukuchiatal Nainitals
unending expense of scenic beauty is nothing short of a
romance with awe-inspiring and pristine Mother nature.
Haridwar
is the gateway to the four pilgrimages of Uttaranchal. Its
also your starting point on the journey to the sacred sources
of the rivers Ganga and the Yamuna.
According to legend, Prince Bhagirath
performed penance here to salvage the souls of his ancestors
who had perished due to sage Kapils
curse. The penance was answered and the river
Ganga trickled forth from Lord
Shiva's locks and its bountiful water revived the sons of King
Sagara. In the tradition of
Bhagirath, devout Hindus stand in
the sacred waters here, praying for salvation of their
ancestors.
Mussoorie,
Popularly known as the Queen of Hills,
this charming hill station, 34 kms

altitude of 2003 mts in the

above sea-level. Mussoorie is
one the beautiful hill stations in India and the most frequently
visited. It provides excellent respite to people who want relief
from the hot sultry conditions of the plains, especially since it
is close enough to the capital to make just weekend trip. Also,
major Hindu pilgrimage sites like Kedarnath,
Badrinath,
Gangotri, Yamunotri,
Haridwar,
Rishikesh are not far from this
place. In 1820, Captain Young of the British army was influenced
by the beauty of this place and made it his residence. The name,
